Ive got a 2004 Sunfire 2.2L ecotec automatic that wont start but cranks over have done compression test that was perfect has spark getting fuel but seems timing maybe to blame scanned it mechanic says timing chain isnt showing up on scan notice no oil had it serviced month before issue car is hardly driven only 60k on the odometer wondering if i should put oil in it see if it will start or do u guys think chain broke and if so how hard is it to change and does anybody have a manual or know where i can download one for free. All help is greatly appreciated.

how can you have a pefect compression test if the chain broke? you would be punching holes in your pistons and bending valves. What does your statment "scanned it mechanic says timing chain isnt showing up on scan" mean? Are you sure you dont have a failed crankshaft position sensor?

Car drove fine an hour later went out went to start it engine made i light thump or tack sound. Tried to crank cranked but would start. Compression test showed 190 i believe in all four cylinders. No check engine lights obdii scan says that timing chain is pretty much non existent checked fuel pressure it was good spark in all four plugs, checked injectors with node light all are working. I got curious checked for fluid leaks no leaks but noticed no oil in engine. Wife had taken car to get oil changed the month or so prior. Im thinking that the guy doin the oil change didnt put oil back in it. I know motor is a high interference motor and piston would slap valves if chain is broke. It cranks at a highrer rate than usual

What is the code number. Not sure what you mean by that explanation.

No-start condition

Even though this question is a month old and I hope you found and fixed the issue. But just in case you haven't, it sounds like you have a bad Crankshaft sensor. The sensor is located just above the Oil Filter. One bolt and it is out. Also you may want to ohm-out the coil packs and check the measured resistance against specs. If the measured resistance is less than spec or nonexistent, replace the coil that is not to spec. A bad coil pack won't send the proper voltage to the plugs to fire. I had the same issue you have, or had maybe. Both of my suggestions to you is what it took to fix this issue for me.
