Surge tank cap

The surge tank cap I have fully tightens but will leak pressure when I squeeze
upper radiator hose. Time for new one. I've been to 3 auto parts stores and a dealer and none of these caps will tighten down. I have to push down and the cap stays down but I can continue to spin the cap which will never stop spinning. Werid or is this the norm? Just got this car from my sister

Sure it is the cap leaking? On our 2000 Grand Am 3.4L the tank had a small crack in it allowing pressure to escape. I purchased a new one at NAPA, it came with a new cap, low coolant sensor, rubber mount and fit perfect. Nice having one clear enough to see you again.

I checked by squeezing the upper radiator hose and the hose was soft
and heard noise from tank.
Took my finger and covered outlet pipe(drainage hose missing)and squeezed again and
there was no noise and could feel the stiffness of the hose.
My cap's rubber gasket is flat compared to all the other caps I have bought.
Might be the thing to do--Just buy a new tank with the cap.

Bought new resivoir tank today with cap.
Replaced and all is pressurized.
Took new cap and tried it on old tank.
Same thing. Cap would not stop spinning.
The opening for the cap is somehow messed up????

Glad it worked out for you. The wife left on a trip today. So I did a pre trip inspection, check tires, pulled the oil dipstick, opened the PS reservoir to check fluids but only had to glance at the coolant tank to see it was okay. Still do not know why the trans dip stick was eliminated on her Grand Am.

^^ To make life hard on us! You can check the fluid but it is not an easy task in just a few minutes. I just keep an eye out for drips and all is good.
