I have a 91 grand am with a 2.5 4 cyl and the guage cluster doesn't have a built in tach but I have an opportunity to get a cluster with a tach from a 89 with a 2.3 and another from an 88. Does anyone know if this would be a direct replacement or would there be some rewiring to it. I want to keep the car stock as much as possible but would like to have the tach also.

If you want a tach buy an aftermarket one you won't be able to swap, the cluster the wireing is specific to the year and model / engine combo which prevents swapping in most cases and there is no way to rewire a factory cluster to work with a non tach equipped cluster the wireing is all different and is usually changed on the printed circuit on the cluster anyway..

Thanks for the info. That's what I like about pontiacs and fords. You can just about park 2 cars of the same year and model side by side and more than likely the parts won't swap from one to the other.

Dont feel bad it's that way with most cars these days and it will only get worse as time and emission standards get tougher ...:(
