My daughter was at University and phoned that the brake light was out. I told her the blub was a 3157 and there was a YouTube video on how to replace the bulb. She said she paid $16.00 for a new bulb and one of the guys replaced it for her and it still didn't work. She came home this week for thanksgiving so I got to see what was going on. Yup she bought a led lamp, I put in a regular 97 cent bulb and it started working. But when the turn signal for the same side came on the instrument lights flashed. So I pulled off the tail Light housing again and there was the other led bulb in the turn/tail Light socket. I exchanged it. For another 97cent bulb and it was all fixed. I suspect the led current drain is so low that the system sees it as a blown bulb.
My nephew had similar problems with his BMW when he tried led bulbs, so if the cheap lights work, don't waste the money, or like my kid don't. Wastes dad's money. Ahh she leaves in a few days, I can then rest easy at night.
