Th350 Trans

Hey everyone so just bought a 72 lemans and got it running . Went to check the Trans fluid level and it was dry . Ended up filling it with mostly atf +4 ... A friend said it would be fine . Now after reading I'm wondering if I need to replace it with some dex/merc gm atf. Does that mean I have to drop the pan or is there a drain hole ? Or can I just keep it ? Haven't driven it yet but had it idling for a little in park while I filled it

if you used the ATF +4 as described in the link below it is clearly not intended for your vehicle. Since you just got the vehicle and probably have no idea when the transmission was last maintained you should pick up a new filter and the correct fluid and drop the pan.

I am thinking you may want to flush the trans and torque converter and do the filter as well as melsg5 mentioned.

I am not sure what will happen with non compatible fluids blended in with your transmission. however if you were that low, you will want to find the leak also.

The Dextron 4 or IV is just a New synthetic version of the now common Dextron/Mercon 3.
