Hey guys

So my engine seized up on me last night and I don't think I want to throw a $3500 rebuilt engine into a van with a slipping tranny and 160,000 miles. So I wanted to say thanks for all the help you provided throughout the years and wish you all good luck with your future endeavors

Merry Christmas

Such a sad ending but your probably better off. My slipping Montana is also on its last leg next major thing to go and its going just like yours.

So what's the next family hauler ?

Not sure yet

Just out of curiosity, how hard would it be to manually turn the crankshaft on the Montana so I can verify what Tires Plus is telling me?

pull all the plugs and put a socket and wrench or what ever fits on the crank bolt and turn it clockwise. I would also get a quote on a junkyard engine.

Thanks mel. Any chance I can get away with only pulling the front 3?

You can try but dont go crazy on the crank bolt with those plugs in the back still in.

Curious if I did swap the engine if I can get away with just removing the engine or would I have to pull the tranny also?

So I got it in my garage today and we confirmed that it will not manually turn. We can rock it back a little, turn it forward, and then it does not go any further

The guy helping me says he has a 3.1 that he could throw in there if I wanted to do that instead of a 3.4. Any big issues with doing this? Would I miss the extra horsepower?

I would be surprised if that engine would be a turn key project. I guess I should ask the question has he done this before?
On another note around here on Craig's list these vans are still plenty full and cheap.
I hope there are members out there that can chime in about the compatabilty with the 3.4 and 3.1.
