Ok I have a 99 Sunfire, and the issue I'm having is the theft system light is on steady. My car will not turn over at all. I've done the ten minute with the key in the on position, and then off for 5 secs, and repeat 2 more times. My theft light never flashes. I've also taken the battery out for over 12 hours and reinstalled it, but same issue. I've also taken apart the steering columm to for loose wires, and there where none. No idea what to do now. Please any help would be great.

Thanks,

Yes I've tried 2 other keys. When I pulled the battery I had it on a charge the whole time. I can sometimes turn on and off the key multiple time and sometimes it starts. However when I turn the car off it does it all over again.

Are the keys sloppy in the ignition? Can you wiggle them up and down? If the keys are sloppy in the ignition, change your lock cylinder. By the year of your car it wouldn't hurt to change your ignition switch while your at it. Look on Amazon.com you should be able to find one for a decent price.

Get a multimeter (voltmeter) and check the voltage at the fuses when you have the key in run. Check the voltage on your battery at rest. Just because you had it on a charger does not mean your battery is OK. It is possible for it to show a good charge but not keep that charge when disconnected.

Yes my key is sometimes hard to turn in the ignition switch. I'll try changing that out, and see what happens.

Thanks,
