If the timing belt is one tooth off, how many degrees off is that? In other words, how much would have to turn the distributor ( if it even has one. I haven't found one, the car is not in my possession anymore so I can't check. )

if the timing belt is off it causes the camshaft timing to be off not the distributor timing. Adjusting the distributor timing will have no effect on a timing belt that is incorrectly operating the camshaft.

If my memory serves me right, that car wouldnt have a distributor. If its the 3.1 it will have 3 coil packs up front on the passenger side, if its the 2.0 4 cyl like I have there is one big coil pack on the backside of the engine under the intake.

If your timing belt is off one tooth I dont think it would actually run. the 4 cyls are interference engines which means if your timing belt is off, parts inside the engine start hitting each other...thats bad. Like stated before even if that was the case and you had a dist, adjusting it wouldnt make a difference. Your cam would still be in the wrong place.
