Hello everyone, I am looking for a vehicle for my son who is close to getting a driver's license, I found a 1993 Pontiac Sunfire Convertible 3.1l for sale with 135,000 kms (84,000 miles), two sets of tires winter set on steelies the other on factory alloys, plugs, coils and wires done, ignition module replaced, brakes recently done, no oil leaks according to seller, no tears or rips in roof. My question is when I am looking at this what should I keep in mind or look for? I need something that isn't hard to fix and will be reliable. Your thoughts and advise are welcome, my e-mail is: baltzmaltz@gmail.com

Well, looks like you are in Canada by your description, rust is your worst enemy, including the bottom of the doors, floors, cowl area, and a pillars and roof. Mechanical wise, struts, engine mounts, ABS system seem to give you problems. Electrical , cooling fan , ignition switch and starter, and the alternator really is undersized for the car.

Thank you for that I will look for rust in the areas you mentioned good to know about the alternator and cooling fan I will keep an eye on the temperature if I make the deal with the owner. Appreciate the help!

No problem, they run like a sewing machine, it's the rest of it that was cheaply built. Had mine now for almost 10 years, still starts on the first crank, 154k miles, seen them in junkyards with close to 300k miles.

General maintenance is the key to longevity..
