Too many revs

It's a 2000 SE 4Cyl 2.2L
I just recently noticed the engine revving like crazy while accelerating to 110k/h. It upshifted about 4 times from 90 to 110, each time the car pulled forward. Almost like it was looking for the right gear, but there was no downshifting...
Seems like it came out of the blue. Transmission problems?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
 
How many miles on the car? Have you ever done a transmission service, fluid and filter? Did you take the car to a shop to check the fluid level?
