DetectiveDucky

I have a 87 Trans Am with a 350 Chevy with a 350 Turbo Tranny. Iv got a Moser Rear End (12 Bolt Chevy) i just snapped the torque bar where it connects to the rear end. Riped the bolt threw the eye hole on top and broke about 1inch from the bottom up (2 places)

Has any one welded it and if so how did it work out??

When it broke it felt like i tore the ring and pinion out of it. Nasty feeling especially when your racing.

Please Leave any FeedBack..

oh man

you are going to have to probley get a new rearend
sorry about that rotten luck man.it really sucks.

any rear end can be rebuilt, take it to your hot rod shop, and see what they say. You dont need a new rear end if you didnt fry everything, just replace or fix the broken parts. I wouldnt trust a home job weld though, get it done right.

No

The rearend is still good it just that bar that runs from the tailshaft of the tranny to the rear end, right next to the driveshaft had a crack in it and broke one of the bolt hole. I have seen people put chains there to fix them. But i wanted to know if anyone every weld it and knew if it would fix the problem.

Are you saying the bolt hole in the tranny broke? If so you can weld that pretty good since it is aluminum. I would look into buying a Torque arm that bolts to the body instead of the tranny. When you start to make some power, this is what happens.:D

If the torque arm itself is broken, I would just replace it. Upgrade with breakage is my motto.
