tranny slipping and other issues ?

Hey guys im new here bought a 1986 am4 2.5l but i think the tranny is slipping... how hard are these to change out?


question number two after driveing for a bit it gets warm behind the drivers seat and smells like oil burning im thinking valve cover gasket its the only thing i can think of mabe you guys have some thoughts ?

and number three ... um its iddling kinda ruff im thinking vacume lines mabe as i cant find a idle screw on the throttlebody

ok the tranny is not bad she had no idea what she was talkin about. the prob is the throttle cable is burned

Check your distributor cap and rotor. I picked up a nice 86se 2.5 for 500 that was running rough and the guy told me that a guy told him it was a bad fuel pump, I changed the dist cap and rotor and it runs/idles great now.

Oh and yes a valve cover gasket indeed, had to replace mine too. What's the insulation look like on the firewall, if it's getting hot behind the seat it's usually poor insulation.

thanks Fim um the cap and roter are fine i think what im gonna do is do a valve cover gasket and i found a nice set of dual exhaust pipes at the junkyard as well for the 86 2.5l i think that will kill two birds with one stone but as far as the insulation the guy before me he was a kid i think it was him that ripped it out .now i gotta replace it sadly . but the throttle cable is fixed was justr a pain for me because i got big hands

The valve cover gasket could be the source of the oil leak as well as just below the valve cover there is a panel on the head. It allows access to the lifters. The gasket on this panel can leak as well. I would steam clean/degrease the engine then see where it is actually leaking from.

The throttle screw is under the throttlebody. You have to remove it to access it.
Chances are it is either a dirty TB, Dirty injector, or vacuum leak. The idle adjustment screw is preset at the factory and the IAC (Idle Air Control) sensor controls your idle electronically. Even if you reset the factory setting, the computer will re-adjust as needed.
