I recently purchased an '05 sunfire with an auto trans. When imbought it the shifting into D and R was fine and the trans shifted really nicely. But shortly thereafter the trans would "bang" when shifting into Drive or Reverse (worse in Drive) and the trans started shifting really hard from 1st to 2nd.
I checked and the upper motor mount had torn the rubber. Thought surely that was it and ordered a new upper and lower motor mount. Installed both and still bangs. So I pulled the trans mount and sure enough it was shot. Purchased a new trans mount and installed it (kinda a crappy design). The "banging" went away although the shifting from 1st to 2nd. I drove it about 6 or 7 miles topping a few times from Drive to Reverse and back into Drive. Seemed as though I had it licked. Pulled it back into my garage and suited a few more times and its banging again. I'm at a loss and don't want to damage anything.
So, did I do something wrong or is there an alignment of one of the mounts? is there that I have overlooked ? has anyone ever had this happen?
