Just wondering about the 1811 code and if a tranny is ever worth fixing or replacing at all?

Also wondering about the torque converter in a tranny and does it have any sensitivity to outdoor temperature or moisture?

I'm guessing it might be better to start looking for another vehicle over the next few weeks...

We had same code on our Montana with 150,000kms. The mechanic said it looks like to tranny is gone, but I did some research and found it could be the PCS as there are TSB about it.

I found metal shavings in the pan, but not larger metal parts.

The problem was the car would lurch when accelerating from stop. It would also have hard shifts.

Finally, I contacted the dealer and said we would not expect to need a transmission replacement so soon. In the end they agreed to pay 2/3 of whatever was wrong with the tranny. They replaced the PCS and then problem is gone. The van performs fine now.

Do not look immediately to a tranny replacement, look to the simpler things first, like the PCS. They seem to be a problem on those years' trannys.

Mine has over 270,000km (168750mi) on it and I had for over three years. I think I got this van when it had about 180,000-190,000km on it, so I think I might have been lucky that it did not happen until now.

The shifting have not started slipping yet, but the tranny is vibrating badly as of middle of last week.

Did have stalling issues this morning when I was parking backwards in reverse into a spot as it happened three times in a row. Temperature was 5C and ground was wet at about 9am when it happened.

I asked a guy tranny shop about fixing the van with an 1811 code and it's 3,000 (which is more than I paid for it).

I should have seen the writing on the wall after the radiator and starter went (plus warrantied battery replacement) within the past few months.
