Transmission oil level how to check?

1997 automatic sunfire. I must be blind, but can not see where to check trans oil level. I found red screw in plug, but no dipstick. It is my daughters car and when she went to leave the driveway, i noticed she had to rev it up to take off. Sounds like low oil. Where is the level indicator? I need to get a book if anyone has a spare one.

there is no dipstick. the car has to be put on a lift and the fluid is checked by removing the fill plug. level should be even with fill plug when running.

You mean the threaded red plastic plug on top of transmission?
