grand am? About two weeks ago I had my car in the shop for a fuel filter change. I had been getting really bad gas mileage, and decided maybe that would help. Today I went to pull out of my driveway, and once I got off the incline, my car died. I started it up and went on my way. Upon returning home the car died again pulling into the driveway. Now it wont stay started. It appears to be turning over fine, I don't think its misfiring. I'll start it up, it'll make a sound like the engine is flooded, and die. IF I try to give the car gas it dies, but the engine doesnt rev or anything. Fuel pump? Any other suggestions?

Welcome to the site!

Suggest the first thing would be to get the computer codes scanned. Your model year should have the OBD-II diagnostics, so many places such as AutoZone will read the codes for free. If the computer has flagged a problem, saves a lot of troubleshooting time.

Next suggestion is to get a reading of the fuel rail pressure. This will help determine whether you have a fuel supply problem or something else. Your description of 'really bad gas mileage' has me suspicious of the 'something else' part.

That's who I'd trust. Inexperienced high school kids at autozone armed with a scan tool telling people they need an O2 sensor for a P01371 code or the likes there of. Engine diagnostics are more than just pulling a code. Sometimes it works out ok and alot of times it doesn't. Take the car to a known good garage that does diagnostic work and have it checked. You already used a garage for a simple filter change, why not have it properly diagnosed at one. Shutting of and flooding can be a result of MANY problems.

I had the same issue with the same car, turned out the fuel pump relay was the wrong one. It would heat up and not work properly.

here are the relay #'s that are supposed to be in the fuel pump relay spot

* This is the one that worked in my car, 3.4l V6
