A few days ago the trunk lock was working normally. Today we went to open the trunk and the key would not turn. I have tried 2 different trunk keys and sprayed lubricant like WD40 into the lock and tried some more. I tried pressing down on the trunk lid while trying to turn the key. Does anyone have any suggestions on what my next step should be? Thank you for your time and knowledge, Bill

i assume this car does not have a fold down back seat? Try removing the rear seat cushion and backrest and the trunk divider and releasing the lock from inside.

Key worn out?

These cars are real sensitive to a good key, if a little worn, it wont turn.

The lock is hooked to a cable that operates the latch below it.

If that broke, you have to take the seats out like Mel said, then pull the cable.

Only way...................... sorry:(

The car does not have a fold down rear seat. Is there a thread or link on how to remove rear seat on this forum anywhere? Thanks for your help and time.

the seat cushion comes out first by pushing it back and releasing from the clips on the forward edge on bottom. The seat back may have some bolts to remove and then pull the back out. 92 Sunbird Le will give you more specific instructions.

Thanks so much for your help. The seat bottom had two bolts that held it in place and the back had the 2 large torxs bolts. I was able to get the trunk open and found that the cable that actuates the lock assembly had pulled thru the plastic arm. I have searched a bunch of websites looking for a new cable assembly but find nothing. It is hard to find anything for the trunk lock system except basic lock cylinder, stryker and latch. Anybody know of what parts are available and where. Thanks, Bill

Junkyard only , Sorry for the bad news................:(
