tryna pull codes..

so my roommate bought a code scanner, and seeing on how my CEL is always on, I wanted to hook it up to my car to see what kinda codes come back. but unfortunately, theres no power to the code scanner. its supposed to turn on as soon as you plug it in, and then your supposed to turn the ignition on. we did it in that order on a 2003 Chevy Silverado, it worked, also worked on a 1999 Dodge Ram, but for some reason has no power on my 2000 Sunfire. I have an aftermarket deck hard wired in. I'm thinking this may have something to do with it? I noticed a lot of the same colored wires that I didnt connect on the aftermarket deck, going from the 16-pin connector to somewhere by the deck. I'm at a loss, as I have already inspected the wiring for a broken connection.. but nothing.. any help would be greatly appreciated!

any blown fuses? any other things on the car not working, rear defroster etc.?

no blown fuses. everything else works fine. i was thinking about it a little, and when i hooked up the deck, theres was a thick orange wire that wasnt specified so it didnt get hooked up. im thinking that the orange wire might just be the power supply for the code scanner

Power comes from the lighter.
