turbo sunbird

hi im having trouble with my turbo sunbird...
sometimes after running a bit the turbo will shut off
and kick back in , but it takes a bit of pedal play
for it to come back on does anybody know what
might be causing this to happen

not sure of the exact term but there is a turbo blow off valve that may be stuck open
