Ok, nother problem. The turn signals work off an on in order to get them to turn on I have to jiggle the emergency light button but they turn off fign when they are suppose to. I took it to an actual auto mechanic and he said that it was a wiring problem and I dont want to spend tons of money to fix this if i can fix it myself. Anyone have any pictures or directions on how i could fix this, or help ingeneral.

If it's like my Grand Prix, there's a cam assembly (that attaches to the turn signal lever) that is loose. Mine is held down by a screw. I tightened that and my turn signal problems went away. Hopefully, yours is similar. Take off the steering wheel (if you have airbags, follow the instructions on deactivating it, first) and then the turn signal assembly shouldn't be too far underneath it. Check where the assembly pivots, tighten if necessary.

A good investment is a Haynes or Chilton's manual for your car. You learn a lot about how to fix problems particular to your car. If possible, find the dealer service manuals, which are really complete. I have a set for my GP, and they're invaluable.

I had the same problem, found out is was a warranty issue, local dealership fixed in 5 minutes for free

I have a 2000 Grand AM GT. Had this happen twice before and is currently happening. If it is still under warranty take it back to the dealer. What the problem is is the switch for your trun signals is staying open.

i took my car in 2000 grand am se and theres a recall on the signal light chip, it costs like 350$ new but it was defective on the 2000 model (not sure on other models) so they replaced it for free.

all i can say is "thank goodness i have a 99gt" but i've had my share of problems to. good luck on the turn signals.

Thats the hazard switch.... It's a hazard switch as well as the turn signal flasher. There is a recall covering a broad range of grand ams to fix this

On our 2000 Grand Am we were told by the dealership that there was not a recall issued but that they were aware of a problem. They replaced the switch and gave us a rental.
