what are the pro's and con's of removing the under the hood insulation?

I am thinking about removing it entirely, just to start cleaning out the engine compartment.

any advice will be greatly appreciated! : )

well it serves 2 purposes, noise reduction and keeps the hood cooler. If you have a chance put in a 180 degree thermostat if it doesnt already have one.

Thermostat? really? like in the hood?

btw, its the original insulation so its all filthy and oily and falling apart...
any brands that you would recommend? I have browsed the internet, but it seems that everyone with an older car rips them out, and everyone with a newer car, keeps them in order to keep the engine heat from messing up the paint.

the thermostat is in the engine, the idea is the engine runs cooler with a 180 thermostat versus the factory unit which is 195.
Try www.amesperf.com or www.performanceyears.com for a new pad if you want one.

Dynamat is cost effective, sound is not that much of an issue with my t/a, as is the heat after getting stuck in traffic in the summer.
