straight pipes

i have a 1970 pontiac lemans v8 350hp 2dr covertible automatic. lately it has been stalling for no reason. it has done it when i am slowing down for a turn, signal light, stop sign, etc. i have rebuilt the carbarator thinking that that may have been the problem along with replacing the distributor but niether has fixed the problem completely. it happends about once a day. the car is hard to start after it stalls, i normally have to pump the gas to get it started a few times. if it stalls and i let it sit for 5 or 10 mins it works fine. i can never get it to stall on purpose so it is hard to work on it if you cant test it. some time it does it within the first 20 mins of driveing it sometimes an hour. i even let it warm up for a good 10 mins before driving. if your car has done this or some one you know has a car that has done this please respond to this thread.

ps - could the carbarator be flooding since it has trouble restarting afterwards or maybe not getting enough gas, but it idals fine befor it stals and after it seems kind of wimpy.

Could be the fuel pump. How long has it been since you replaced the fuel pump?

How hot is it running? Sometimes, if a fuel pump about to go completely kaputz, it won't work properly when it's hot.

Check your spark plugs. If you're fuel mixture is way off, i could see it causing this problem.

Check for vaccuum leaks.

Have you checked your timing?

Mine used to stall when I slowed down all the time. I solved it by just tuning the carburetor. If a lot of things are just a little off, (float level comes to mind as being a probable cause of your problem!) it will have a hard time running while you're slowing down.

Lemme know if none of these are the problem, I'll give you some more things to look for.

update

i think that i might have solved the problem. when i was looking at the fuel filter, thinking that i might have been having something in the gas tank, i notice that there was supose to be a spring behind the filter to alow gas to flow through. i simply just went out and bought one and has been running good sense. i am not saying that it is fixed, just runs good for now.

Shelly...

Posting pictures is fairly easy.

When you reply to a post, there will be a menu bar above the box where you type your response. Five in from the right you will see an icon that looks like a mountain with a dot (supposedly a sun, I guess) in the upper right corner. Click on that, and a small window will pop up.

When it does, put the location (URL) of where your picture is at on the Web and press OK. Wherever you located the link you just established in your reply, is where the picture will be.

Be reminded that you MUST have the picture on the Web for this to work. This forum will not upload pictures from your computer. I use Photobucket to host my pictures. There are others available. If you have your own website you should be able to link from that, I would think. If you're still having problems let me know and I can walk you through it.
