I just got a 2000 Grand Am SE 3400 from my sister and
I trying to tune it up. Got with low coolant.

Found I needed to replace the thermostat.

Concerned about low coolant, I looked it up and found that
this car has gasket problems. I performed a vacuum test and
it ran steady between 17 - 18 inches. Flung open throttle
and gauge went up and down and returned to 17-18.
Great!!

Question---
With a vacuum gauge results being good, could it still be possible
to have a gasket leak somewhere? I don't see anything on the internet
about performing a vacuum test to determine if the 2000 GA has gasket problems.
It seems like a simple test but it isn't mentioned to do.

Never heard of anybody doing a vacuum gauge test to determine if the lower intake manifold has a coolant leak. Use a cooling system pressure tester and check visually around the lower intake manifold.
