Hi there

I have an Pontiac Catalina 1962 4 door sedan.

Can any of you people please tell me where I can find my Catalina's vin-numbers.

The tag at the door clearly can be read, when "transelated", as an Tempest from 1961. Also the papers that came with the car says so. It has been on the road and registered with that information. Even have pictures of the car with plates on. Whilst the look of the car all says it is a Catalina 1962.

Where can other "hidden" vin-numbers be located on this car?

Here are places i have checked so far:

Dashboard, up by the windshield. No tag
Under the wipers (mounting plate) in the room where the wipermotor sits,
Whole Firewall,
Frame sides both left and right over the rearaxle

Please say there is more places I can check since I want the papers to be right.
Or could it be a joke from the Catalinas factory? (Bad one if so)
I can not find out how this tag got there since there are no visible weldingspots other than whats looks been done from factory.

Many many thanks for any respons

Best whishes from
Roy

more places please

Doorpilar was the first place i looked. And yes as I said there is a plate there but it says tempest from the numbers.
I wanted to know other locations where it might be stamped into the chassi/ frame.

so the first three digits are 162? Did you look at the body plate, top left cowl under hood to see if the last 6 digits of the VIN are the same on both plates?

give up or not?

This is the number on that plate
161p446**
and from those number it should be an tempest 1961.4 door sedan.
from the plate rivited under the hood its with fawn color.
the car though is seafoam aqua, a 4 door sedan and has a 1962 catalina
chassi and frame.
This car (catlina with this (tempestplate) has been on the road and used for some years a while back. There's pictures of it, also the old owner says that and the man who aproved it from the inspection servicesis stil alive (but not working at that place anymore.)
Ive traced this cars history back to the early 70's and they all say the same that they have seen this car on the road.

I still want those papers to say the same as the look of the car though..

So it appears someone switched the plate somewhere in the history of the car for unknown reasons, wouldnt be the first time for that to happen.
