Hey, I own a 1972 Pontiac Lemans 2 door coupe. And I wanting to look up my pitecular cars background history of owners and what factory it was assembled and stuff. In the VIN, the 5th diget is supposed to be the engine code. When I looked at mine, The engine code says H. I look up in the data base specs. But there is no engine at all showing H with it. All the other numbers seem correct. Can some one help me what the H means? I live in Canada.

What motor is in the car? Is it the original motor? If your looking at the vin on the dash, is it rusty or dirty and maybe that letter looks like an h and its something else?

Look at the engine pad in front of the passenger side cylinder head you shoud see a code such as WK or YS etc. The last 6 digits of your VIN should also be there, if not you dont have the original engine. The history of the car as far as what it left the factory with can be purchased from www.phs-online.com

Ok thank you. I found what I needed. It's a 350 Chevy factory motor.
