Hi,

Last morning i used my 2001 Pontiac gram gt for a short trip. I park it in my driveway as usual everything was off on the card. Later in the day i needed my car for another short trip.

It was late at night. The first thing i noticed when i opened the door is that there were no greeting light. I noticed warnings light in the dash. The lights were "low oïl","cruise", "low gas","abs". The key was in the off position. When i pushed down the brake pedal the lights went away.

I tried to start the car nothing. My father boosted me and the light went off, greeting lights came back on and the car started.

Is it a new battery i put in back in june 2013.

What could have caused this ?

Since my car was unlocked in my driveway the first thing that came to mind was that my car had been tempered with.

This is a used car i picked up in June 2013 i remplaced a lot of things from the brakes, water pump, intake mainfold gasket, battery

I also had a paint job done and removed all rust on the body of the car.
I want to do the shocks on it and maybe change Wheel berrings

Are you saying you left the key in the ignition after you parked the car? If this happened only once, is there a chance you didnt close the door completely which killed the battery? When you replaced the battery was the charging system checked?

bast1981,

Melsg5 has make a great point. You can also get your vehicle diagnosed at your GM dealership. We look forward to your update.

One very simple thing that we sometimes overlook is how clean our connections are to the battery terminals. The battery may be new, the posts clean but the cables could have corrosion which can prevent the battery from receiving a charge from the alternator.

Carefully check your cable ends for any signs of oxidation (acid). I would (and have) clean them in a solution of water and baking soda to neutralize any acid/corrosion on them. I will bet that, even if they appear to be clean, you will see the bubbling effects of the soda neutralizing acid.

When they are clean, coat them with dielectric grease and reinstall. This may not solve your problems but it is simple yet very important maintenance that will help to lessen unneeded stress on your electrical and charging systems.

Good luck with the rest!

A 2000 should cut the power to the interior lights if a door is left open after 15 or 20 minutes.
