I get a classic "can of marbles", maybe just a little higher pitched, noise when accelerating. It happens when I first start driving or when I need to accelerate quickly. it starts around 3k rpm but will go away if pushed to 4k. Can't really even figure out where to start. Any ideas? am I omitting someething you need to know?

If you have the 3.4 then its 1 of 2 things 1st all those engines have a piston noise due 2 a lack of teflon coating there was a bulletin to us mech to repl pistons but it was so common and not harmful to engine gm stopped replacing pistons. 2nd or you have a worn connecting rod bearing not good . what u need to do can u be parked and rev enigine and make noise try 2 determine if the noise is Half speed of engine or faster then pull wires off 1 at a time and see if noise stops

Bad motor noise

FYI, I recently bought a 03' Aztek and the day after I bought it this same issue started. I tried getting my money back even took the people to small claims, but in Michigan it is buyer beware, or As is. So I was screwed put synthetic oil in it, drove it until it broke which was less than a month. It still runs but something broke loose, spun a bearing or bent a rod, or broke a piston rod. Now I need to decide if I want to wasn't my money putting in a used motor. I heard they have to be from the same year or they won't fit in an Aztek?

you need the motor the wire harness and computer if a different year. A junk yard has a Hollander Interchange guide to assist you.
