We're looking at a 1969 Firebird 350, and after a scrutinous inspection we've found no real problems except the rusted floor. It's a good deal for the price we can get, but we're skeptical of having to weld in a new floor panel, seeing as they provide a large amount of support for unibody cars. We also have zero welding experience and no way of raising the car beyond a couple feet on jacks (which may not be safe without a floor panel). We can't go spending a couple thousand for a shop doing it. Is it something that could be done safely, or at all?

It's done quite often and the parts are available at www.amesperf.com and other sites. If you have no welding experience I dont see how you are going to do this on your own.

yes you can learn but you dont want to learn on your car. Do you own a welder or have priced one out?

Welding floor pans
There are some interesting videos on Utube to help you learn. Watch a bunch of them, some are good welders and others not. If you can get the right welder, you can do it from inside the car once you cut out the old pans. You can either overlap the metal and weld or cut to dimension and make it look professional. As long as it doesn't leak water, the carpet is going to cover it anyway.
