On my way into work today, I noticed a loud flapping sound under my hood which got louder the faster I went. Once I was able to stop, I looked under the hood and noticed the padding that lines my hood had a wear mark in it like something was scraping it off. I looked at the Accessory belt which was right under the wear mark and noticed that the belt is missing some of its width in places but isn't completely broken. I've also noticed that my AC hasn't been working and that my blinkers work when they want lately. I'm also noticing low brake pressure. I really need some help before I take my car in because the last repair shop took me for $950 for a fuel pump that only took them 2 hours to replace. I cannot continue to get taken by the underhanded mechanics.

if it,s serpentine belt then it runs everything like the alternator, power steering pump, water pump and the AC.

Why not just change it yourself? Just find the right size wrench to fit on the tensioner assembly, turn it clockwise, and slip the belt off. Put the new belt in position on all but one pulley (alternator would be easiest) and then over that as you turn the tensioner out of the way again. It would run you about $30 for a top quality belt at Autozone.
