what causes a car to over heat? is it expensive to repair? looking to buy a car (2000 pontiac

grand am gt)? only problem is that it overheats but its a great price with EXTREME low miles. please help.
it was mentioned about the heads, but they have been re-done, so could it be something minor, the mileade on this car is 58K for $2,200. would i get a good/bad deal? explain. not much of car gal so need you help. THANKS!!! :)

look it here it could be anything from a bad thermostat or abad radiotar it could be a bad hose, etc. but grand am's have a really bad history with their engines like water getting in the heads! its a gamble!

I would have to agree the low miles and having a problem like this would be something I would say keep looking , as it could very well be something seriously wrong the heads on the V/6 cars are prone to cracking and blown gaskets which if not properly repaired will just keep causing issues like overheating and poor performance...
there are lots of other cars ...keep looking...
