what causes my 1997 Trans Am to miss fire when I through a car wash... The check Engine Light

comes on? Smoke comes out from the windshiled wiper area on the driver side. The Plug wires were just replaced . . . thought that was it... Nope. After a day or so . . the check engine light goes out and it runs fine???

Some part of your high voltage (secondary) ignition area is leaking voltage when it gets wet.

For a quick fix, you can spray all high voltage area (including inside of the distributor - if you have one), with WD40.

WD stands for water displacement and it will keep the water away from these components. If you were to run through heavy rain your car call stall out.

Good Luck

all your electronics and ignition box is right there, a 97 probably needs some weather proofing around those parts, it would be like lifting my motorcycle seat and hosing it down, just not done. A little silicone and weather stripping can do wonders.

put a new distributor cap and rotor on it, change the spark plugs since you're already under the hood and have your tools out. it will fix it.

Probably water running down and getting the plugs wet and smoke is from water on the exhuast manifold. A scan test will tell you which cylinder was missfiring.
