I'm about 95% commited to picking up a '00 Trans Am WS6. It has an SLP airbox, K&N air filter, skip shift eliminator, and a new clutch. First of all what does the skip shift actually do. And second, what would I need to do to get it to 400hp? All comments greatly appriciated. Thanks.

I have an 00 WS6 also. the skip shift just skips you from 1st to 4th gear if you are shifting at low rpms (in other words you arent cranking on it) all it is supposed to do is help gas mileage i think. really it is worthless in my opinion because you can shift from first to 4th if you want on your own it really is a pretty pointless option so if you are worried about that car having the eliminator i wouldnt worry much it wont hurt the car at all. in terms of 400 hp its not hard to do with the LS1 motor which comes in the ws6 car as part of the Ws6 option. First of all motor trend claims this motor to put out at least 345 bone stock which i believe it is rated at 335 from factory. I would go to work on exhaust first. Headers and an offroad mid pipe will get you as much as 30 hp pretty easy from what i have read. another guy on this forum told me to go with the hypertech chips because you can do all sorts of things with them in terms of engine settings they are actuall programmers and are easy to use from what i hear. if you want more speed i put 4:10 gears in my car. it didnt hurt my mileage much at all and it really helps it get up into the powerband fast. For traction i put tires on that are a full inch wider then stock and they look fine and dont rub at all so that helps a lot bc the TA is a bit tricky to hook up with that short of a rear gear. I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend and if you want to get into the motor. I could go on for days if you want to tear the motor apart but for now get the chip, headers, midpipe and maybe rear gears and you will be tough to beat. on a side note i have talked to several people who run 150 shot of NO2 in their ws6 cars without any problems. if you get this car you will love it they are a great car. fun to drive they look great run good and are loaded with nice options, you wont be dissapointed

400 hp? NOT A PROBLEM!!! Im a salesman for a chev dealership in canada. The 00 ta was rated at 335 hp, the vette at 350. Now, first, the only diff between the motors was the cam, and the Camaro/Transam actually had a wilder cam than the vette, if you put both cars on the dyno bone stock the vette HAD 350, the TA/ z28 actually put out closer to 375. FACTORY, the reason GM did this was so that they didnt make the 35000 dollar car look like a better buy than the 70000 vette. so the best way to hit 400 plus hp, is a chip, exhauset and a cold air kit. less than 700 bucks spent and Id garentee 400 and change. I also have a 150 shot of silly juice and its a BLAST! some old time old school rodders dont like it, but to each there own. Dont need a 150 shot, 75 will kick you in the pants good and hart also, I just dont mind rebuilding my engine from time to time, it gives me an exuse to put more stuff in it. 75 shouldnt hurt your motor in moderation. Buy the car, have fun, keep us updated, and if you have any hard mechanical questions, Analogkidd455 seems to me quite good and knows his shit. good luck.

Nitrous and hypertect don't go together at all, it is like water and oil, you will blow your motor with that combo it advances your timing, and that is what you don't want with nitrous. It is impossible to hit 400 with those mods period w/o the juice.

Your a mouthy little f*ck! you have no Idea what your talking about, Prove me wrong on what Ive said, and Ill retract any statment Ive made, untill then JUNIOR, keep you lips shut.

I do not agree with all that carguy-z28 has to say but I definitly would not say he is an idiot and does not know what he is talking about. He has stated many times that he does not mind rebuilding his motor so that shows me he is a true car fanatic. I personally would never use nos with a chip but the other mods he said to go with would definitly put you close to 400 horse, most likely around 380. It is not only the horse power that gets you a good 1/4 mile time but how many of the horses you can get to the pavement and how quick. Good luck on whatever mods you do and to the guy that made the rude remarks let try and keep this an adult disscusion without being an ass.

OUCH!:D

I don't know much about the LS1 cars. Haven't messed with them. Although an engine is an engine I don't know the specifics on the LS1. But, I know the cam is very small and the heads don't flow as good as the LS6 heads. You can look there for the horsepower your looking for.

Yeah, analogkid455, I thought about a cam, I also found a 383 strocker that I wouldnt mind trying in my transam. The guy said it has 409 HP as it sits, So, I figure, NOS, and a cam, and some aluminum heads, that should heep me up there in 500-600 range. ( more with the NOS. ) I know you dont like it, but I love it. You put lots of time effort and money to build your motors to run strong all the time, I put a bit of money to make it run strong short term, and lots of money into rebuilding it. hahaha, I think your the smarter one here!!!
