What is a safe temperature reading on a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am?

I've only had this car one week. As I was driving I noticed the temperature gauge beginning to read hot. I pulled over and discovered I was out of coolant. Today I put coolant in and drove around to make sure it wouldn't over heat again. The temperature stayed a little below the 200 mark. Is this a safe temperature to drive with? Thanks!

Depends on the weather. A nick below or above the half way marker isn't anything to worry about. Not at all.
