What is best horsepower i can have on my 350 pontiac motor, its in a 75 firebird, 4 speed, 10...

...bolt rear end? I am getting bummed out, I wanted a hot rod but was a nube when I bought the 75 firebird. Today I talked to a machine shop, he said that I would not be able to get 400+ horsepower on my 350. He said maybe 300-325. What does anyone think of that. Not sure what horsepower I am running now, it has a performance manifold, 600 edlebroch carb, headers, Accer distributor cap, thats about it, maybe 250 horse not sure. compression test was done aver cylender was 135, any advise out there.

who ever said that you couldnt get big numbers from that motor is retarded. The main difference from that 350 and one from the early 70,s was the heads and cam... If you put aluminum heads and a crane cam that alone will bring you over 330-345 hp... Put a 750 CFM holley ( or whatever brand you like ) carb, a high rise intake, long tube headers, cut out the cats, get a full 3 inch exhaust and Ill promise you your over the 400 + mark... Good luck and go to a different performance shop.
