What is the best car alarm the is at least compatible with my 98 pontiac sunfire?

my car was broken into a couple months ago and my purse was stolen from my place of work last month so i'm paranoid to say the least. i cant put my car in a garage without having my rent dramatically increased so i'm trying to find a car alarm at a reasonable price with enough safety features to cure my paranoia. i've looked online for a couple and the look pretty good but i really don't understand what the features do or even what they are, i'm not that familiar with cars so if you have any suggestions please help.

What ever you do, do not hook up a secondary alarm to your cars electrical system. These cars have very fragial electrical systems and any interuption in ther system can and will renduer your car useless. I know first hand of this. A cobra 3000 was installed and it reeked havioc in my car. I'm getting ready to junk this car. It shorted out the instrument cluster and a few relays. I don't recomend a secondary security system unless it's totaly independant.
