is the max safe psi different for each year? (if so tell me psi's for each year)
is there any cheap mods (under $1000) to increase the max safe psi? the car is all stock

well the other answerers are close but not correct.. the engine will throw in some major timing retard anything over 7 psi.. i've done boosted applications on many ls1 vehicles.. for $1000.. you could buy a new set of pistons to lower compression or even have the chambers in your heads milled out to lower compression.. lower compression means higher boost pretty much.. for every LS1 vehicle your only looking at 6-7psi before the knock sensors kick in and cause major retard in timing..

so answer is.. new pistons.. or mill the chambers on the heads..

Generally speaking the max safe psi is around 7-9. This all depends on the internal construction of the motor though, and some high performance cars cannot handle that with stock pistons because the already have very high compression. Some may be able to handle more.

7-9 is fine like the first response said but you also have to look at the size of the supercharger/turbo you're looking at. PSI is merely a measure of resistance and doesn't measure actual air flow.

If you take a Procharger, say a P1-SC and a D1-SC...9#'s from the D1 is going to be more than the P1.

There are plenty of guys running 8#'s from a P1-SC on their LS1 over there...hell I'm running the same on a 142K mile stock L98 motor and the LS1 is built 10x's better than mine.
