I am looking for a car to buy and I want to know how fast a 1999 Pontiac trans am firebird goes. Its a 8 cylinder 5.0

Pontiac did not make a 5.0 liter Trans Am in 99. in 1999 it is a 5.7 liter 346cid
Top speed is 155

True and false. OP, calling it a 5.0 is a slight fail. It's a 5.7 LS1 engine. Top speed on the GAUGE is 155. Not the car. The car can go past that, especially if you have the top speed limiter tuned out. The gears in the rear end also affect it. Bigger gears mean a much faster acceleration, but you lose some top speed, but who really goes top speed anyways? I prefer a nice 0-100 mph pull any day, 155 is dangerous. Side note: Bigger gears also means a slight decrease in gas mileage. The biggest gear you can fit on that stock 10 bolt is a 4.10, but aftermarket rear ends can go much higher

(I have heard this for the LT1s, not sure if it is the same for the LS1s) if the gauges go to 155mph instead of 120mph then you have the more performancey motor. not sure if it is true or not but I heard it from a reliable source.

In my 1999 Pontiac fire bird trans am the fastest I went stock was 174 the exhuast wasn't though

And how did you determine that speed?
