Grand Am 1999? I am looking for an aftermarket deck for my pontiac grand am 1999. I need some form of ipod connection or preferrably USB for my ipod, zune, or an external hard drive.

My friend says my "bin"? is not a normal size, it is like 1.5 size or something?
also, it would be nice if the steering wheel controls worked with the new deck.

For sure regardless of what kind of after market stereo you install you re going to loose that great feature of being able to control your stereo by the steering wheel. Only way to keep that feature is to custom order from the dealership a new stereo but its really expensive. In fact the stereo that comes in most cars cost at least 800.00 , yours bec its the steering wheel feature is 2,000 or more . I had a car with that same feature and simply decided to just leave the old stereo in it. Almost any after market stereo would fit the car and you usually need to buy a universal mounting kit.

You may have issues finding a deck that is adaptable with all of the features you want I don't believe that the steering wheel controls can be adapted without a aftermarket harness made for the specific unit (radio) some may have it but I would bet they are high end units , you need to also check that any other systems in the car aren't run through the radio "buss" computer system the size your friend is refering to is the "DIN" chassis radios which are industry standard these days "1/2 DIN" chassis are what most aftermarket chassis are, they make adaptors for almost any chassis these days it may be worthwhile to have a stereo installed by someone who knows what they are doing these days there are too many things that work through the radio system you can mess up if installed wrong..
