...400? I've been trying to find numbers about it online and can't find anything. Ive seen it rated at 220 hp, is that right? How can such a big engine put out such a small number?

Engine ratings were Net HP in those days they would test an engine with all the accessorys installed and operating to get a HP rating ..
lots of todays engines are rated the same way but the tech has come along way with fuel injection and better materials
back in 77, 220 HP would have been top of the line HP
I don't remember the 0-60 times but the 1/4 mi times were in the 14-15 sec range for the automatic cars (remember these were heavy cars) compared to todays lightweight ones, they weighed around 3700-3900 lbs depending on options...

The smog years and factory cams with 4 degrees of retard ground into them for better emissions contributed to those low HP numbers also. A simple aftermarket cam swap with 4 degrees advance ground into it and a free flowing exhaust really helped pick them up. 0 - 60 was in the 6 second range. Check the 2 middle exhaust ports and see what numbers are cast there. If the combo is 6X you have one of the best set of heads for that era making bolt on mods a real plus in HP increases. 4X weren't too bad flowing but the 6X had the larger valves.
