Wheel Locked key wont turn

Hi I went out to start my car sunfire 1999 (just purchased a used one few days ago) the wheel is locked and the key won't turn. This happened before when we do get out of the car and turn the wheel slightly I hear a click sound which then locks the wheel, so I have been turning the wheel back and forth and turned the key and it started but this time it is not working, tried turning the wheel left while turning the key but nothing, have been trying for the last hour. Any suggestions Thank you
