Hi,

I have a 2006 Pontiac Torrent, AWD. We had very heavy rainfall and my wife drove through a deep puddle. The water went almost 3/4 way up the tire. Now the front wheels squeal/squeak very badly when I take my foot off the gas. When I accelerate the squeal goes away, but as soon as I take my foot off without braking, it starts sounding. The slower it goes, the louder it gets. It's not the brakes - they were done a few months ago and I gave them a cleaning. Is the noise coming from the hub because water may have gotten into it? Will it eventually dry out and go away? Any advice is helpful.

could be CV joint or bearings depending on age, give it a week and see if it goes away

Thanks melsg5. If water got into the CV joint or bearings, will it dry out and the noise go away. I really don't want to start ripping it apart if I only have to wait for it to dry.

normally both pieces are sealed and lubricated, with age lub can dry out water can get in, so wait a few days to see what happens and then try to see if it is both sides or one. CV noise is more prevalent when making sharp low speed turns. You are sure there is not road dirt on brake pads or rotors. You have no tears in the rubber CV joint boots?

Hi melsg5,

The sound is only coming from the driver's side wheel and it is a little louder when turning. I will check the CV joint boot to see of there is a tear. I know it's definitely not the brakes - it's a different kind of sound.
