the reason I posted is because Year One was very "frosty" with me about commiting to their wheels fitting, even when I described year, make & model. I asked for someone in tech support to talk to and their order taker said there was no tech line, but I could email to their tech dept. JEEZE...... so after doing that, I get an email response that I should send them a template for the brakes on the car...... im thinkin what the heck ???? do they wanna sell wheels or not ?? why not a template of the bolt pattern ??
afterall - were not the honeycomb wheels of the 70's made specifically for Pontiacs ( trans ams, firebirds and a few GTO's ). So I figured go to the good people of Pontiac forums, especially firebird / TA people. someone out there MUST HAVE done this to their TA. I just want to go from a 15" wheel to a 17" wheel and keep my honeycomb look. Im not altering parts on the space shuttle !
First you need to know the OEM wheel and tire size the back spacing and offset.
Then pull up your vehicle on TireRack select tires and wheels packages.
You will get a list of OEM sized wheels and tires with different back spacing and offsets you will also get a list of plus size tires and wheels that are known to work with your car.
Look at the selection and compare the specs to what the other companies are offering if they do not match they may not work without modifying something on your car.
Tire rack only shows plus sizing up to 16 inch, this does not mean 17s or 18s cannot be installed it could mean they have little data on your car.
I have seen the plus sized wheels on Trans Ams yet I couldn't tell you what they did to install them.
With a 16 inch wheel they show
Backspacing:4.45"
Bolt Pattern:5-475
Rec. Tire Size:245/50-16
for OEM size wheels they show one wheel with these dimensions
Size:15x7
Offset:0mm
Backspacing:3.976"
Bolt Pattern:5-475
Rec. Tire Size:225/70-15
This is the type of information you will need from the supplier to know if the wheels and tires you want will work.
Once you have this information perhaps we can try and help you out.
the main thing is the tire size width and offset of the wheel.
You have not provided this information and we should not be expected try and find the wheel that may or may not be the wheel your interested in potentially giving you information on the wrong wheels.
Do your part and we can help.
There are online sources and tools that will help with this as well.

It is not complicated your right, but this is something you should learn everything you can about.
It is your car and it will ultimately be your loss if you end up with a set if tires and wheels that require you to hack up your nice 1972 TA to fit.
