Around the first of February my 1998 Pontiac Grand Am had its engine go out on me. i was driving when all of a sudden i hear a loud thud which was followed by the car shaking violently and continuing the thudding noises. It wouldnt accelerate either. Basically, i had to call the tow truck to get me home. I believe it isnt the timing belt because if its hooked up to a bettery, the car will start but only for a few minutes all the while, the engine will shake and make those loud thudding noises.

im only to assume I threw a rod. And i've been trying to see if I can find any replacement rods or anything for the engine but I havent found anything. I really cant afford to replace the motor. It's a great car in awesome condition. Except for the engine. Im stuck with a junker right now and it sucks majorly. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm sure one connecting rod will not be all you need if you threw a rod. You are sure to have crankshaft damage and will need a crankshaft kit with that rod replacement. And you will very likely have cylinder wall and piston damage as well if you threw a rod and you will likely have to sleeve that cylinder and replace the piston. You might just as well rebuild the entire engine.
