Where is downstream electrical connector on 2002 Sunfire 2.2L ?

Sorry. Dad long since gone bought this new in 2001 and had had it ever since until I inherited it. I suppose what you say could happen to a car, but it never did on this one. It's only got 43K original miles on it and it hasn't been abused or messed with since I got it. I simply (HAH!!) want o change th downstream O2 sensor, but cannot. I don't know why this car suddenly passed the test last year or why it has the same problems this year. It has foor not ready monitors and it is only allowed two.

I would have imagined since a year has pased some professional Pontiac tech would have gotten wind of this topic and seen his way clear to help out this fool. I guess not. I do have and have had and worked on Jaguars in the past and he on line Jaguar forums are chock a block with info on nearly everything you can think of. Those forums are very, very helpful about any type of problem.

I will keep looking and referencing all manner of info till I find this or get rid of the car.
Why aren't you taking it to a shop or dealer? Are you in the US?

I am in the US. I happen to be in Texas. I have always successfully worked on all my cars by myself. I have a lot of knowledge and tools to do almost anything. I have really never brought anything to any dealer or shop except some machine work. I have always done my own research, including using forums and the internet and have always been able to find any answers I have looked for. This has always included almost anything one can do to or fix on a car. Therefore, I have an aversion to dealers. The stuff I have found out on the net has literally save me and others I've helped thousands in repair dollars. It usually involves very much more than some simple information which should be readily available and usually involves fixes the dealer has no idea about which are very simple and inexpensive (free) to do like cold solder identifications and fixes on Jaguar ABS units the dealer would trash and sell new. Through the many years the forums, etc. have afforded me the ability to accomplish things I would have spent much money and time going to a dealer to perhaps fix. To a lesser degree the same applies to a shop.

Again, I apologize for posing such a big problem. I just didn't think this would be a hard one.

Best regards, Brian

The part I don't understand is, if someone disconnected it from the O2 sensor it should be still hanging there near the sensor.

I will try and join the J-body group, The 02 sensor was never disconnected so no evidence of any part of it hanging down. This is the first time I have ever tried to change out the 02 sensors. Prior to this attempt there was no reason to even try.

What do you mean it wasn't disconnected? When you went to change the O2 sensor what was at the end of the plug attached to the sensor, nothing?

I located the 02 sensor on the exhaust pipe after the catalytic converter and traced the wires up till they disappeared into the rear miasma of the engine. I could not determine from there or from the top of th engine where the electrical connector was so I left it alone and get out from under the car. It is not customary to disconnect things on the car without knowing where they end up or are attached to. That saves a lot of work in the end.

So no, I did not and could not disconnect the electrical end of he 02 sensor. The other end is straight foreward enough.

Still no definitive answers to my question.

Looking online at the O2 sensor it has a very long harness connected to it. Just eyeballing the picture it's several feet long. So I see no alternative to tracing where it goes.

No alternative. Interesting phrasing. I suppose you mean you don't know and can't trace where it goes either. Exactly my problem. The wiring just disappears into a rats nest of stuff under the engine.

Can't trace it because it's not in front of me. Are you using a lift?

No, unfortunately, I have to jack up any car I want to work under. I would love a lift - who wouldn't? There's no space in my garage for one even if I had the money. I did get under the car to see about taking out the downstream 02 sensor and while there I traced the wire to where they disappeared into the engine bay. I already said this and there was/is no trace of the wires from the 02 sensor emerging under the stuff in the engine bay. That's why I'm here asking for information from the forum members. Somebody must have changed out their downstream 02 sensor before and all I want to know s where, exactly in pictures, is the thing so I can do the same. I am not on social media site and only rely on forums such as this and you tube for answers to my questions.

As I have statd, I have worked on Jaguars and other cars successfully for many years doing it just that way and researching books and manuals. This has been a stupid and frustrating thing.

In post 23 I suggested posting your question at j-body.org, did you?

Still no definitive answers to my question.
