...On Unless You Put It In The? If i turn the switch to the door setting it still stays on. I can't really think of anything wrong, except for maybe a sensor.
Sorry I didn't finish the question. Unless the light is in off position the it will not shut of.
 
Try your door open sensors. There are two or four, depending on the model car you have. There is a common wire for the passenger and rear doors, and another wire for the drivers door. I don't have my wire chart with me, but I do know that both wires can be found on the drivers side, under the kick panel. If these wires do not change state when the doors are opened/closed, the dome light will never change to on or off. I had a problem when an aftermarket alarm was installed in my '01, and the tape came off of one wire, grounding it. The dome light never shut off, because it saw the doors as always open. There is a timer that will shut off the dome light reguardless after 20 min. to save the battery.
