Where is the fuel filter located on a 2001 Pontiac grand am

3.4 L? my car cuts out while driving, I've added heat to a full tank ruling out water in the gas, I believe it is the filter...
hopefully not located in the tank itself...
Any idea about cost of replace or amount of time to replace the fuel filter?

it is in the rear of the car up above the rear axle
