I have a 1994 Pontiac Trans Am GT with the LT1 and 6 speed transmission. I've put both new exhaust manifold gaskets, thermostat, exhaust check valves, and catalytic converter on it. Last week it started making a grinding noise randomly at the front of the transmission which I honk is the release bearing going out. Today I drive it and the grinding is one but now there's a loud whine coming from the car. After lunch I drove it again and the noise is still there but when stopped at a traffic light my car when from 210 degrees to close to 260 degrees but once I gave it gas even sitting still it would go down. Has anyone had this issue before? I'm guessing it's the water pump but I do not see any fluid coming from that area.

have you checked the coolant level when cold? are the engine fans working, I assume they are electric?

I checked the level when cold and it was full. Both cooling fans work and yes they are electric. I pulled the thermostat out and put everything back together with out it and it still overheated so it wasn't the thermostat. I am putting a new water pump on and half way through putting a new one on. I will be finishing it up tomorrow and will update everyone with my results.
