1968 Pontiac GTO 428, Factory Pontiac Power. In 1968 the 400 cid was the standard engine, but there were options. Who is the Famous person who owned one of these Rare 1968 Pontiac GTO with 428 cid engine?
Starting in at least 1962 when Pontiac released the 421 Super Duty, it came factory with 2X4 barrel carbs, and 1/4 mile time of 13.07 seconds, however TO AVOID DELAY IN THEIR PRODUCTION LINE anyone requiring more power factory could do so at any Factory Authorized Upgrade Pontiac Dealership. Were do you think Pontiac Dealerships got upgrades for Pontiac Performance? 421 Super Duty parts at the Aftermarket Drag Racing Store!?!?
Every Pontiac Dealership offered Authorized Factory Performance upgrades for any Pontiac 326, 389 and 421 S.D., such as Bill Barry Pontiac, Anderson Pontiac, Knafel Pontiac and built winning factory race cars, Royal Pontiac, "Bobcat", just added more flash to their factory Upgrades! Later on, after 1964, Pontiac would upgrade any car for racing as long as you didn't tell anyone, because G.M. was out of Racing. As for factory engine options it was a definate go ahead!

never heard of a stock 428 in a 68 GTO. my guess would be if it was true. jim wangers. must have been a royal oak car. Arnie Beswick perhaps? john delreon?

Yea, the 428 was a popular upgrade among the drag racer set, but was never offered from the factory - at least not out the front door!

My guess who owned it? Arnie Beswick, Jim Wangers, John Delorean, Jay Leno, Me...

Am I in there somewhere?
