Why do you think the Pontiac G8 didn't sell well in North America?

It's a rebadged Holden Commodore, the best selling car in Australia. Models like the GT had plenty of muscle combined with practicality, so why do you think they didn't sell? As GM products went, they were very well made.

answer to G8 sales question

Because #1 today people are buying foreign cars which are produced in non union companies and are cheaper. #2 Its true GM ruined the brand image with aztecks, montanas, and worse. The stepup performance in style image Pontiac once had needs to be revived with good looking stock of product.
But politics aside the obama adminstritrations thugs told GM do it or else. thats a fact. The government's demands on the auto industry is ruining the industry/hobby for enthusiasts in performance cars. Its becoming very obvious that the green car movement is a huge flop, with terrible feedback from owners. Claims about misstated mpgs and no interest in an electric anyway. The whole thing is a huge waste of money and has hurt the auto industry. Let people decide what they want and role back Cafe standards. All the auto fans that love foreign cars simply by market forces have reduced the option list from Pontiac/Mercury/Saturn/Olds/Plymouth/long list... to Kia/Hyundais/toyota/nissan/izuzu/subarus/audi/volvo. With the right people controlling American companies we could smear them off the map. I do see a lot more American cars from Chrysler/GM/Ford that are fantastic cars and the buyers are starting to agree. If G8 was built in Australia, then so be it. Its a GM car and the profits (if any) can go to R&D in this country at GM instead of Asia/Europe and those companies fed by foreign car buyers. Americans blame all kinds of things but its clearly the buyers choice on the showroom floor. In Europe they ALL drive 1.8 litre sardine cans with manual shift. gas is about $8-9 bucks a gallon. Some want that here. fight back or you will be.

I think the main reason it didn't sell well is becaue nobody knew about them. The car had a name that nobody was familiar with and Pontiac had almost no advertising budget.

Visually, it didn't look that much different from the Grand Prix. GM should've did a retro Firebird.

The few G8's I've seen didn't stand out as anything special. Nothing to make a person drool over. And I agree the marketing wasn't there. What I did read of them was impressive but having a dressed up family sedan isn't my idea of sporty.
