My my 1999 pontiac grand am stalls and it has the dtc 0440 why is that?

why my 1999 pontiac grand am has the code p0440?

P0440 is the evaporator system. 1st thing to check is the gas cap. Make sure it is tight. The purge solenoid for the evap purge could be bad or a line is bad.
